Recently, we wrote an article about using Facebook Lead Ads to get more subscribers to your newsletter. This is the perfect opportunity to give another useful tip but this time around about Twitter and how to use Twitter Ads to get your Revue newsletter noticed by more people.

Twitter is like a crowded bar and spreading the word about your digest with the help of a little bit of advertising (which may require a small budget) is a great idea. Really, you don’t even have to spend that much to get more people to notice your awesome newsletter.

Sadly, Twitter killed off our beloved Twitter Lead Generation cards not that long ago and that is not the best news. They were a great way to generate leads and were really helpful when it comes to promoting your newsletter and especially getting people to sign up. Oh, well…moving on.

Before we jump into the paid side of Twitter, one thing you can easily do to make your newsletter more visible is to pin a tweet to your wall about the most popular issue of your newsletter. This will be the first thing people see when they land on your Twitter page.

And now, how can you set up Twitter Ads to promote your Revue newsletter?

TWITTER ADS

Before you start with creating your campaigns, we need to clarify that Twitter Ads and Twitter Cards are a great option if you have a business account. If you don’t, you can launch your Twitter campaign by going to “Twitter Ads” from your personal account where you will need to fill in some information like country, timezone, billing information etc. You should be seeing this at the bottom of the page:

Can’t really click on those but still good details to keep in mind :)

Then just continue by following the steps below!

STEP 1

First things first. You need to go to the little circle in the upper right corner of your Twitter profile page and click on it (for business accounts). Then choose “Twitter Ads” from the drop down menu. If you have a personal account and you completed the step before that, just click on “Let’s Go”.

Go to Twitter ads

STEP 2

Find “Create Campaign”. Now you should be seeing the following:

Given that you want to promote your Revue newsletter and get people to subscribe to it via your profile or campaign tweet(s), the best option to choose here is “Awareness” from the drop down menu. That’s mainly because this will help you get extra exposure and therefore, potentially new subscribers.

Here you can read more about what exactly does this option offer! (In case you clicked on Create Campaign)

STEP 3

Once you click on “Create Campaign” you will get to the page where you can start the process of creating your campaign. Firstly, you will have to set it up. This means you will have to name it and set start/end dates. The next thing to do when you scroll down is to choose your target group.

Choose End/Start Date of campaign
Decide who you want to target!

When you are done with that, you will be able to set your budget. You can choose optimization options for reach and engagement! If you click on “Advanced Options” you will also be able to set your budget to automatic bid, which means that your bid “will be optimized to get the best results at the lowest price (within your budget)”. Nice, right?

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on this, you can even try out with 5 bucks to begin with! :)

Finally, you get to put your actual campaign together. Here you have the option to either promote a previous tweet with your Revue newsletter or create a new one. Twitter also states that creating a new tweet might be a bit better since it will help with engagement.

Also, you can see a preview of your tweet on iOS, Android and Desktop. Once you’re done, all you have to do is click on “Save” in the upper right corner and “Launch”.

Twitter Cards

Even though, Twitter Lead Generation cards were discontinued (R.I.P. our helpful friends 😢), there is still a way to use cards on Twitter if you have a business account. This option won’t be able to collect the necessary information you need for your Revue newsletter directly (like email addresses e.g.) but nevertheless, they can be quite useful. Their main goal is to drive traffic to your Revue profile page where people can sign up and to also help with engagement mostly because the cards encourage you to include images and videos, which attract attention.

STEP 1

After learning how to set up our Twitter Ads, now it’s time to show you the second trick you can use to further promote your Revue newsletter. Just go to the top tab and click on “Creatives”. Then choose “Cards”.

STEP 2

In the top right corner you will see a blue “Create new card” button; click on it!

CREATE NEW CARD :)

The drop down menu will let you choose between “Website Card, Image App Card & Video App Card”. Here you need to click on Website Card since it fits best the purpose of promoting your Revue digest. The other two options are more for products and businesses, so they don’t necessarily fit your goal the most.

STEP 3

Now you will see a side bar pop up and you will be able to fill in the details about your desired card. It will look like this:

TIP: Here you can add an image to your Revue newsletter profile page (see below for example) very much like what I’ve done. Also, don’t forget to link to your Revue profile page so people can easily check out your digest and subscribe immediately once they land on it!

Example of how I’ve done it in case you need some inspiration!

STEP 4

One you’ve saved the card, you can click on it and decide whether you want to attach another card to the tweet or another photo. You will also be able to decide on postings of the card, meaning that you can either choose standard (goes out to all of your followers and is free) or promoted only (goes out to users you’ve targeted in the campaign, thus you decide who it reaches and it is paid). You can add both to your already existing campaign (in case you’ve previously created one). Also, if you click on “Scheduling” you can tailor the times that you want your card to be posted at.

The link in the tweet is your already prepared card, which automatically pops up in there.

And that’s that! It’s super easy to set up Twitter Ads and Twitter Cards and get your newsletter in front of the right people. Remember to carefully choose your audience and track your campaign(s) for the best possible results. Let’s do this! 🎊
