Hooray! You’ve sent out an issue

Now what?

You sending out issues is like those full of joy Christmas mornings for us! We never know what awesome content will go out through our platform this time and we owe it all to you, our amazing community that curates regularly super cool stuff.

Once you’ve joined Revue, it’s extremely easy to add your content to your Revue, create your first issue and send it out to your awesome readers. Some of you may wonder what happens afterwards though. Since the majority of users are people who are interested in seeing how their newsletter performed, those majestic little tools called stats come into play.

So we took it upon ourselves to ease you into the process. Sometimes statistics may sound scary or at least complicated. But all in all, it’s something not to be feared but rather embraced.

  1. Go to Issues. Find the button Statistics next to your issue.
  2. Now you’re gonna see a snazzy bar on the top and a few different boxes on the bottom. So, the first horizontal bar you see on top shows you a brief summary of how many subscribers your issue went out to, what percentage of those opened it, how many of them clicked and what percentage unsubscribed.
  3. When you scroll down, first you’ll see the column ‘Most popular links’. There you’ll see in order of the most clicked link to the least clicked link. Those are your “Click Rates”. Right next to the link itself you’ll be able to see how many times this specific link has been clicked. And wait for it… Once you click on the number, magic happens and you see who clicked on the link and how many times! *MIC DROP*
Literally. Blown. Away. Right. Now.

4. Next to this awesome box, you can see another one, which shows you which subscriber opened your issue and how many times. Thus, your “Open Rates”.

5. Underneath, you can find the people who “Unsubscribed”. This is pretty self-explanatory. Plus, this column doesn't deserve that much time since those peeps decided they’re too cool for school and skedaddled to search their own purpose away from your amazing digest.

On another note, 24 hours after you’ve sent your first issue, you get a super fine table of the most important stats and this brief summary aims to show you how your issue performed. It looks something like this:

Some Quick Numbers For Comparison:

  • You’re probably wondering what are ‘normal’ open rates. Well, first of all, it will really depend on many different factors. One of them being what kind of industry you’re in. There are slight differences in the average open rates between newsletters in the agricultural and let’s say, entertainment industries. But if we had to say, gun to head, an estimation of an average number for open rates that will be 20%. Remember that subject lines here are so important, they can literally make or break the success of your digest, given the fact that they define whether or not you will grab your readers’ attention. What we’ve noticed is that with Revue you might get better open rates, to be more specific our average is around 35%! You can even see that with the example of my newsletter above.
  • When it comes to click rates (or how many times and how many subscribers clicked on the links in your digest), it’s again a very subjective issue. For example, an average number here is even harder to estimate than open rates. Again, many factors influence this, e.g. the quality of your content and what your audience likes. Very roughly estimated, you’re looking at 2–4% click rate. With Revue, you might be looking at 8.5% click rate, which is extremely good! (see example above)

Some Quick Tips For Improvement:

  • If you’re not happy with how your open or click rates are doing, you should ask for feedback. Reach out to your readers. Tweet them. Email them. Be kind and ask for a favor. Show how much you care about the quality of your content and what you deliver to your audience.
  • Another great strategy is to test your subject lines. Try a new thing every time you send out an issue. This can be really beneficial, especially in the beginning, while you still don’t have a massive following. See what works and what doesn’t. Take notes. Find out what grabs your readers attention!
  • Become more personal. That is something we’ve seen work every time. From experience.
  • Experiment with your content. Look for the patterns in what your readers enjoy. The way you can do that with Revue is by closely looking into your click rate section and observing who is clicking on what & how many times. That is where the secret sauce is. That way you can track with each passing issue where the attention of your readers goes. Also, look for traction on social media. With Revue you can share links from someone’s newsletter, so be on the lookout for someone mentioning you!

Some Additional Tips & Info:

  • After you’ve sent out your issue and you give yourself a well-deserved pat on the shoulder for doing such a mesmerizing job, you can easily share your newsletter with the rest of the world by clicking on the social media channel buttons!
  • Also, if you want to grow your subscriber list without paying extra $, guess what… You can! All you have to do is share your “referral” link with your friends and if you get one person to sign up, you immediately expand your subscriber limit with 50 people! Because sharing is caring ❤

Using stats is a nifty way of tracking the success of your newsletter. What you do with this data is most important. We’ve simplified our statistics in a way that everyone can understand them, yet they manage to provide you with the most necessary and essential information you need to have. That way you can learn from them in order to improve your digest’s performance.
